Inhabitants of Edinburgh are being told to keep an eye out for a bright red bird that has escaped from the city`s zoo.

The rare scarlet ibis, which is on the loose in the city after a squirrel chewed a hole through its enclosure, is in danger of being attacked by predators due to its loud colour.

Several attempts have been made by the zoo`s bird team and the Scottish SPCA to catch the animal and, though getting close to success, they haven`t managed to do so yet. They`re still keeping a close eye on the bird`s whereabouts though.

It has been spotted three miles away from the zoo in Dundas Street, close to the city`s vibrant centre.

Should you be enjoying a break in one of the fabulous Edinburgh hotels over the next few days, be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the sky for any sign of a shockingly bright red bird.
