Tourism is remaining a strong source of business for the Catalonian capital amidst the ongoing economic crisis according to the President of Barcelona Tourism, Joan Gaspart.

Recent figures revealed that spending by tourists in Barcelona in 2011 on average was 124 euros more than in 2010, whilst in the first half of 2012, the number of tourists had increased by 1.69%, overnight stays were up by 2.26% and credit card spending had gone up by 27.08% compared to the same period last year.

The news could not come at a better time for the stunning city, which has been going through financial difficulties for some time.
