An App by the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona has been unveiled, designed to specifically help blind people travel to their desired destination by bus.

Aptly named OnTheBus, the new Android application can also be used by the deaf, the cognitively-impaired or anyone else, with Barcelona one of three cities across Europe to sport this fantastic new addition to your smartphone.

Featuring both auditory and visual cues, the app works by providing a choice of routes for the user, before guiding them to their desired destination or the closest appropriate bus stop. Once there, the app will inform how long the user has to wait before the bus arrives.

Utilising a GPS functionality, a smartphone compass, accelerometer and 3G or WiFi connectivity, it could be the perfect application for those affected by the aforementioned conditions or anyone else who are planning a stay in one of the stunning Barcelona hotels this summer.
