The Helix theatre in Dublin is preparing to host a performance by one of the most popular live music acts of recent years, the Spaghetti Western Orchestra. Fresh from a brilliant televised performance at the 2011 BBC Proms, this extraordinary five-piece band are embarking on a UK tour which stops off in Dublin on 23 February.
The group has made its name by interpreting pieces written by legendary composer Ennio Morricone, which have featured in some of the most famous Western movies of all time. As revered for their stage charisma and comic personalities as they are for their musical talent, the ‘orchestra` uses over 100 unique instruments - including bottles, bicycle pumps and boxes of cornflakes - to recreate songs and scenes from films like For A Few Dollars more, Once Upon a Time in the West and, of course, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
