The world famous Louvre in Paris is playing host an exhibition out of this world over the next few months, which is light years away from the greatest western art work the world has ever seen on display at the institution.

Running until 17 March, hundreds of toys from the last 35 years of the Star Wars saga are to go on display at the Les Art Decoratifs museum in a wing of the Louvre, with Jedi showdowns, stormtroopers on the lookout for droids and spectacular aliens all helping to form this fascinating display.

It is perhaps not the first thing visitors combining a cultural trip to the French capital with a break in one of the idyllic hotels in Paris would expect to find in the Louvre – regarded by many as the finest art museum in the world – but the curator of its toy department, Dorothee Charles, said there is a place for Star Wars in the chronicles of art.
