The Tarragona Castells Competition is set for a grand return, a festival designed to test balance, strength and physical endurance, as teams battle to reach for the skies.

Held in the first weekend of October in the city of Tarragona, it has become one of the most anticipated events on the region`s calendar, and more than 7,000 packing into the Tarragona bullring to watch in amazement. With just one event every two years, more than 15 different troupes attend the one day festival. It is a unique event, one in which the aim is the build the largest human tower, also known as a castell.

Groups taking part are awarded on the difficulty and intricacy of their structure, with the grand champion being announced at the end of the day. It presents one of the traditional events you can witness while staying in any of the hotels in Barcelona, with the event just a short drive from the Catalonian capital.
