"Great Hotel"

we got `upgraded` to The House...Room was fantastic, more like the size of a studio flat. Large size ensuite with bath & separate shower. Saw hotel room through a window & they look pretty good too, although can`t comment more. The Bothy is the hotel restaurant, food is good & reasonably priced & booking- even as a hotel guest - is essential. It also has a reasonable size car park (approx a dozen spaces). Public transport into Edinburgh is frequent with 2 bus stops within a 2 min walk of hotel on either side - (20 min bus ride). It is also opposite Murrayfield Stadium. Edinburgh Zoo is 5 min drive -(about a mile) down the road. Would highly recommend hotel & will certainly be going back.

"Our initial impressions were excellent and those were fully supported during our stay."

The welcome we received upon arrival was very friendly. Our room was well appointed and the tea and coffee making facilities were by far the most generous we have experienced. We opted to dine in the Hotel bar and enjoyed a very good meal. Staff were helpful with directions to enhance our brief stay in Edinburgh. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel.

"very very tired decor and furniture."

although we encountered most pleasant staff, our room was cramped ,with cracked window panes, brass window fittings which were green through lack of cleaning and no blind on bathroom window. The carpet in the bar was filthy and the gents toilet by the bar smelt and looked like it had not been cleaned for some considerable time. I shall not hurry back.

"Overall good, enjoyed stay, would go back there."

The reception and dining room were excellent, but our bedroom needed some TLC, and perhaps secondary glazing, as there was noise from bar downstairs and people milling outside along with the traffic from a very busy road. The hotel is situated very well for the buses being very efficient and cheap. The staff were all very helpful and attentive.

"Staff are lovely, making this a very friendly hotel. "

Room had everything tea/coffee ,hairdryer, easy worked tv,good shower. I had sandwiches delivered to room, great after a few drinks in nice bar.Outside there is beer garden (smokers take note).Meals around the £8-£10 for main course (not bad).Bed a wee bit springy. All in very nice stay.I`d recommend.

"Very nice hotel with character, really nice helpful guy on reception, BUT several problems. "

Problems:1. On arrival hotel had no record of our booking. This caused a longish delay which was a problem as we had a dinner reservation in town and had to rush instead of having a leisurely evening.2. the shower malfunctioned - stuck on hottest setting and would not turn off. This caused problem on Saturday morning. We were told we would have to move rooms so would have to pack up belongings which combined with breakfast delay (see 3) made us late for a tour booking we had in town.3. There were no tables available for breakfast so after a wait, we had to be accommodated in the bar at a table which was still beer stained from the previous evening.4. Breakfast staff ( lack of English, perhaps?) rather brusque in manner. " You go out here and wait" !!!We understand that problems do occur but this was too many for a short stay. A complementary bottle of wine would at the time have helped - however nothing was offered.

"Perfect for our stay in Edinburgh."

Great welcome at reception. Small room, perfect for purpose of putting your head down after a busy day but enhanced by luxurious bathroom. Very quiet. Sad we had to rush in the morning and miss out on the highly recommended breakfast! Have already recommended it to friends! Barbara / Colette
