London Hotels are in for a fabulous treat this week with London Zoo’s latest attraction. ‘Tiny’ the baby Gorilla that lives at the zoo took his first steps yesterday.
Tiny, a male Western Lowland Gorilla, was born in October last year and is the first gorilla to be born at the zoo in more than 20 years. Mother, Mjukuu, held the youngsters hand in the Gorilla Kingdom to help him along his way towards his first steps. Tiny’s dad unfortunately didn’t get to see this special moment as he passed away just before Tiny was born.
But Daniel Simmonds, 37, has taken Tiny on as a surrogate ‘son’ and was thrilled with the moment of his first steps. Daniel describes the young gorilla as “cheeky” and “a right character”. Zoo keepers have seen the baby gorilla growing up and say that his character and the amount he is learning is really coming along.
Western Mountain Gorillas are critically endangered in this present day with around only 150,000 remaining, so Tiny is a real asset to the zoo. The baby Gorilla currently weighs 2.5kg but will grow to be over 200kg. Tiny lives with his mum and two other female gorillas with the zoo acquiring a new male called Kesho to join them.
The Gorilla Kingdom is a special attraction at London Zoo and will attract all visitors to see baby Tiny and how he develops into an adult gorilla.
