
The British Library is currently hosting a major exhibition called ‘Royal Manuscripts: the Genius of Illumination`, which offers a fascinating insight into the extensive collection of ‘illuminated` books that were owned by the UK`s kings and queens between the 9th and 16th centuries. Running until 13 March, this unique display is the first of its kind and showcases the magnificent and elaborate artwork of the so-called ‘Dark Ages`.
Those interested in either royal or British history in general are sure to be intrigued by the Genius of Illumination, which is not only visually pleasing but will also teach visitors much about the moral, religious and political beliefs of the period, as well as the individual identities of ancient royals.
