Visitors to some of the excellent London hotels over the coming months will be able to update their friends and family on the go about their memorable trip to the capital after it was announced that the free London Underground wi-fi service had been extended for the rest of the year.

Originally scheduled to become a pay-as-you-go offering after the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Virgin Media confirmed that commuters and visitors would be able to make use of the service ‘throughout 2012`.

Labelled an ‘incredible success` by Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, the wi-fi facility runs at 72 stations, whilst it was claimed more than 661,000 people were using the service at implemented at stations such as Waterloo, Victoria, Oxford Circus and King`s Cross.
