The world`s greatest playwright is to be celebrated in the capital this year as part of the Cultural Olympiad`s London 2012 Festival. The World Shakespeare Festival, starting on 23 April and hosting events throughout the year, will be staging the bard`s most famous plays and a varied selection of other exhibitions and events across the city.

Starting with a performance of Troilus & Cressida at the renowned Globe theatre in Southwark, other highlights of the festival include King Lear at the Almeida Theatre from the 31 August to 3 November, a full RSC season at the Roundhouse, and the intriguingly-titled Romeo and Juliet in Baghdad between the 28 and 30 June at the Riverside Studios.
