The capital has lived up to its billing as one of the most popular cities in Europe after triumphing at this year`s World Travel Awards Europe.

London scooped the title for ‘Europe`s Leading City Breaks Destination` at an awards ceremony held at Conrad, in Algarve, Portugal, beating off competition from the likes of St Petersburg in Russia, Madrid in Spain and Prague in the Czech Republic.

The city`s success will undoubtedly be attributed to the impressive handling of this summer`s Olympic Games, with the biggest event in the world going more smoothly than many had expected.

The city will now compete for world titles at the WTA`s Grand Final, which is taking place at The Oberoi, in New Delhi, India on 12 December this year.
