The annual report has been released for London`s National Theatre, with the venue boasting fantastic results on attendances.

Released by the National Theatre`s (NT) Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner, it shows that an incredible 1,746 performances from 27 different productions featured throughout the 2011/2012 season, witnessed by over 2.3 million members. The total income for the venue was a staggering £80 million, double the amount generated in the same period ten years ago. One of the clear successes was the production of War Horse, with the Michael Morpurgo show earning a 99% attendance record throughout its residency.

While it certainly comes as good news for the theatre, it also puts to bed any fears that the stage theatre scene in the capital is on the decline.
