The hugely successful production of Matilda has announced its transfer to Broadway, a move that is sure to please theatre fans across the pond.

It has been a breath of fresh air for London theatre when it opened at the Cambridge Theatre in May 2011, winning a host of awards including Best New Musical, Best Actor and Best Actress among the record breaking seven accolades it picked up at this year`s Laurence Olivier Awards.

An adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, it tells the story of Matilda, a girl genius who soon realises she has telekinetic powers. As she grows older, Matilda is able to harness her powers, using them to her advantage in attempts to drive away the horrible principal Ms Trunchbull from her school.

Matilda is set to officially open on Broadway on the 11 April 2013, opening for previews at the Schubert Theatre. While it does mean the show is set to end its West End residency, there is still plenty of time to catch the acclaimed spectacle as part of the many London theatre breaks available throughout the year.
