Double Olympic champion Laura Trott has helped launch an annual cycling event in London as the early effects of hosting the Olympics start to grip the capital in the positive way it was intended.
She joined forces with London Mayor Boris Johnson, who outlined the event and called it ‘wonderful` for the city.
To be first held in the capital next year, Johnson confirmed there would be a 100-mile ‘Marathon` bike ride event and an eight-mile ‘free cycle` to inspire more to take to two wheels. There could also be a classic event for top cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish to compete in, although this is yet to be confirmed.
Johnson himself is to take part in the 100-mile bike ride, wryly referring to the challenge as a ‘piece of cake`.
Just one of many events sure to spring up from hosting the Olympics, it could be a great excuse to combine some fantastic physical exercise with a stay in one of the fine
hotels in London.
