The London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony earlier in the summer set the standard in showcasing what a great show the capital is capable of providing, and last night the Paralympics followed suit.

A spectacular show watched by 80,000 spectators helped mark the beginning of the event, which was officially opened by the Queen last night.

After what was yet another fantastic advert for the city, Paralympics chief Lord Coe told the crowd to ‘prepare to be dazzled, prepare to be moved`.

Signalling the start of 11 days of competition by 4,200 athletes from 164 countries, the opening ceremony was co-directed by Jenny Sealey and Bradley Hemmings and was praised by a host of critics, some of whom called it ‘inspirational`, ‘dazzling` and ‘stunningly beautiful`.

There are still tickets available to catch the Paralympics over the next 11 days so come and enjoy this magnificent sporting contest whilst enjoying a break in one of the excellent hotels in London.
