London 2012 was the ‘most-watched television event in US history` according to NBC, the TV network which hosted the sports bonanza.

More than 219 million viewers tuned in for the event, according to Nielsen ratings figures, beating the 215 million who watched the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The news comes after it was confirmed the Olympics was the largest national TV audience in history for the BBC, with its coverage drawing in 90% of the UK population.

The figures prove what a great advert the Games were for the city, with landscape shots of the capital`s fantastic skyline combined with images of the city`s cultural life beamed to large audiences across the world.

If the Olympics got you in the mood for a trip to this fabulously vibrant and cultural city, be sure to combine your break with a stay in one of the fine hotels in London.
