The West End enjoyed strong sales once again in 2011, despite the recent economic downturn.
Figures released by the Society of London Theatre (Solt) showed takings totalling more than £528 million, up 3.1% on the previous year on a like-for-like basis, whilst Solt also suggested the average audience for each performance was up.
President of Solt Mark Rubenstein believes the figures, which were gathered by theatres represented in membership of the Society of London Theatre, highlight the good work by venues across the capital.
“We are extremely proud that our theatres have yet again gone on to achieve another record-breaking year of sales. Despite the prevailing rigours of the economic climate, theatre-goers have acted with their feet and wallets” he said.
