Theatre rail break to London!

We booked a theatre rail break to London through Hotels Direct. The website was easy to use, price was great and the booking process was extremely easy and quick to sort out. Booking confirmations were sent by email immediately, so everything was on my phone with no need to print anything out which makes life easier (and saves trees). I`ve used Hotels Direct twice for a similar break and everything went according to plan both times. Will definitely use them again in the future and would recommend them.

Why Padstow?

Offering some of the South West's best seafood restaurants, the picturesque fishing port of Padstow is located on Cornwall's north coast. The town is famed for its connection with celebrity chef Rick Stein and one of the UK's leading restaurants owned by the chef along with several cafes/ shops there. With its seaside location, cosy pubs and yacht lined harbour, Padstow is the perfect destination for experiencing everything that is great about Cornwall.

Rick Stein

With 5 restaurants, 4 shops, 6 holiday properties and even a Seafood School in the town all to his name, it isn't surprising locals call their town Padstein! True, Rick Stein has put Padstow firmly on the tourist map, but Padstow is undoubtedly all the better for his considerable influence. Visitors can choose from the selection of different eateries run by the chef, from the formal Seafood Restaurant and St Petroc's Bisto to Steins Fish and Chips. For those wanting to take their taste of the sea home, Padstow Seafood School offers cooking workshops allowing visitors to learn how to recreate their favourite seafood dishes.

Activities

There are plenty of activities on offer in and around Padstow to keep visitors entertained. Unsurprisingly, water-sports are one of the most popular ways to enjoy yourself with everything on offer from sailing and fishing to water-skiing. For those wanting to stay dry, the Camel Trail is perfect for the whole family. The Camel Trail is a bicycle trail running alongside the wildlife rich Camel River Estuary offering stunning countryside and waterfront views. Bike hire is available at both ends of the trail (Padstow and Wadebridge) and bike trailers may be hired for young children.

Wildlife

A Padstow Sea Life Safari offers visitors a chance to see some of the wonderful creatures living in the Cornish sea. There are opportunities to see Dolphins, Seals and Sharks to name just a few! The Camel Estuary is also a hub of activity with local wildlife and is perfect for those wanting to partake in a spot of bird watching.

Food & Drink

Rick Stein's restaurants and bistros include The Seafood Restaurant, St Petoc's Bistro, Rick Stein's Café, Stein's Fish & Chips, Stein's Deli, Stein's Patisserie and The Cornish Arms. Interestingly another celebrity chef, Paul Ainsworth also has a restaurant here. Paul Ainsworth at No 6 Restaurant offers fresh, seasonal ingredients in a simple, modern style. Padstow is also packed with traditional Cornish pubs, many with beer gardens, perfect for those warm summer evenings.

Harbour

Padstow's picturesque harbour houses fishing boats, yacht's and speedboats. You will often see people sat on the harbour walls fishing for crabs with special reels that can be bought in the local shops. The harbour is protected by the famous Doom Bar, a sandbar that makes it difficult for large boats to enter Padstow. Historically, the Doom Bar has been responsible for more than 600 shipwrecks, beachings and capsizings.

Beaches

Padstow is surrounded by some of Cornwall's most beautiful beaches. The stunning Trevone Bay is less than a 10 minute drive from Padstow and is perfectly located to make the most of the summer sunshine. Harlyn Bay is also reachable in under 10 minutes and is sheltered by the surrounding sand dunes. Rock Beach has a mile long stretch of sand and faces Padstow on the other side of the estuary; it is a 30 minute drive away.
