Why Par?

Centrally located on Cornwall's south coast, the town of Par allows swift access to many of Mid-Cornwall's most popular sights and attractions. Since the 19th Century Par has been at the centre of Cornwall's export of china clay and this rich natural resource continues to be an important driver of local industry. As well as benefitting from lots of cosy Cornish pubs and a sandy beach, Par is within a 10 minute drive of the fishing village of Fowey and the market town of Lostwithiel. The spectacular Eden Project with its futuristic biomes is a 15 minute drive.

Hiking near Par

Perfect for those looking to explore Cornwall's famous coastline on foot, the South West Coastal Path passes right through Par. This 630 mile walk circumnavigates the South West coast of England. Whilst completing the walk can take up to 8 weeks, the experience affords you much of what this beautiful and dramatic county has to offer.

Historical Sights

The 13th century Restormel Castle is just a 15 minute drive from Par. Here visitors can discover some of England's history whilst enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and Fowey River. In the summer months the castle has outdoor theatre performances, providing a magical way to spend a warm evening.

Railway Enthusiasts

Within a 20 minute drive, you will reach Bodmin & Wenford Railway where you can discover (or rediscover) the nostalgia and excitement of travelling by steam train. Enjoy the 13 mile round trip followed by a delicious Cornish Cream Tea! The World of Model Railways is also just a 20 minute drive from Par. The main display has over 30 trains traveling through different landscapes; there is also an large onsite shop where model train enthusiasts can add to their personal collections.

The Eden Project

The Eden Project, now world famous for the dramatic biomes that enclose the world's largest tropical rainforest outside the tropics, is just a 15 minute drive from Par. The main 50 metre tall biome has a tropical climate and houses an array of tropical plants, jungle and a waterfall. There is also Mediterranean biome and The Core; an interactive educational centre build around The Seed, a 70 tonne granite sculpture in the building's inner sanctum. The Eden Project is also fast becoming one of Cornwall's top concert venues, hosting acts such as Jessie J, Dizzee Rascal and Ellie Goulding at the open air 'Eden Sessions' venue.

Beaches

With 80% of Cornwall surrounded by the sea, it is easy to see why the county is one of the UK's top beach holiday destinations. By choosing to stay in Par you will have swift access to some of the most popular beaches in the area. As well as Par's own beach, Par Sands, holiday makers also benefit from being a 5 minute drive from the spectacular Carlyon Bay and the picturesque Polkerris Beach.

Harbours & Ports

Built between 1790 and 1810, the historic port of Charlestown has featured in many films; notably Tim Burton's 2008 film Alice In Wonderland and is home to a famous collection of tall ships. Visitors to Par can reach this beautiful village in just 10 minutes. The harbour village of Mevagissey is 20 minutes from Par and within The Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which acknowledges the most spectacular landscapes across Britain.
