Rumour and intrigue is never far away in London's Theatreland and the West End grapevine is rarely short of speculation about the next big show. We've been keeping our ears to the ground and gleaned a few tasty tidbits...

Salome

Salome

Al Pacino hasn't featured in the West End for over thirty years when he took the stage in a production of David Mamet's American Buffalo (which, coincidentally, is set for a star studded run at the Wyndham Theatre this summer) at the Duke of Edinburgh Theatre but rumour has it that the Hollywood legend is finally set for a return with a production of Oscar Wilde's play Salome. Pacino's production of a play that he claims has had him 'addicted' since he saw Steven Berkoff take the lead role in a London production, has already been performed in New York and Los Angeles.

No Man's Land

No Man's Land

Two more revered stage and screen legends, Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, are also set for a return to the West End. The pair, who are close friends , are reportedly booked to star in a production of Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, a play they performed together at Broadway's Cort Theatre a couple of years ago.

Dreamgirls

Dreamgirls

Broadway smash Dreamgirls is finally set to make its London bow according to reports. The tale of a Supremes-esque girl group was made into a film starring Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles and Jennifer Hudson in 2006 and has been a favourite across the pond since its premier in 1981.

Elf The Musical

Elf The Musical

Elf The Musical, based on Will Ferrell's 2003 classic Christmas movie, has already enjoyed popular runs in Plymouth and Dublin and is now set to take on London. The show has been a festive favourite in Broadway since it first opened in 2010. Previews begin at the Dominion Theatre on October 24th, just in time for the long lead up to Christmas.

Aladdin

Aladdin

Hot on Elf The Musical's heels at the Dominion looks likely to be Aladdin, another established Broadway hit. The Disney hit had previously been regarded as a shoe in at the London Palladium but now seems set to wind up at the Dominion according to the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye.

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is another film favourite that looks set for a musical reinvention. Reportedly Tim Minchin, fresh from his success with Matilda, is set to team up with Scott Rudin, who has recently worked on The Book of Mormon and Fish in the Dark, on a much anticipated adaptation. Though London has been mentioned as part of the plan fans of Bill Murray's 1993 smash may have a wait on their hands before they get to see it transferred to the London stage with a Broadway debut set for March 9th 2017.

Finding Neverland

Finding Neverland

Broadway also has first dibs on Gary Barlow's first theatrical foray, Finding Neverland. However, Barlow has suggested to the Daily Mail that the Harvey Weinstein produced musical will come to London in 2016.
