The Show
Multi-Tony and Olivier award winner Susan Stroman directs and choreographs this spectacular production which has transferred from a sell-out season at the Chichester Festival Theatre to the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Oliver-nominated star of Half a Sixpence and Mary Poppins Charlie Stemp stars as Bobby, alongside West End names like Carly Anderson (Wicked) as Polly and Drama Desk Award winner Tom Edden as Bela Zangler. Bobby Child is a theatre-mad man torn between his show-business dreams and running the family bank. His demanding mother (played by Marilyn Cutts) sends him to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a rundown theatre. Here, he meets the spunky Polly Baker, and falls in love instantly. Little does he know that she is the daughter of Everett Baker, the owner of the theatre he is to take. Desperate to prove himself and win the heart of Polly, Bobby decides to put on a show to save the theatre, complete with dancers from the glamorous Zangler Follies in New York City. With a riotously entertaining book by Ken Ludwig and overflowing with glorious Gershwin melodies (including Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Rhythm and They Can't Take That Away from Me), this is ?a divine production that will leave you giddy' says The Guardian.
