The Show The Girls is a dynamic and uplifting new musical, set in the heart of Yorkshire, which follows Annie's struggle to cope with her husband's terminal cancer. In order to raise money for the hospital caring for him, her unpredictable friend Chris suggests their Women's Institute group pose for a charity calendar, but with a stark difference. The ladies will be shown baking, sewing and completing conventional WI activities ? completely naked. Starring Olivier Award winning actress Joanna Riding as Annie, and Claire Moore, best known for her role as Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, as Chris, this inspiring story is sure to be a hit among all age groups. Written and Directed by Tim Firth with collaboration from musical legend Gary Barlow, who brings his signature popular style to the songs, this is an unmissable new production set to take the West End by storm.
History of The Girls Based on the true story of Rylstone and District Women's Institute and their unusual charity calendar back in 1999, it was first made into a film in 2003 written by Tim Firth and starring renowned British actors Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. The film was a triumph, celebrating all things British and in 2008 was adapted by Firth and Hamish McColl into a play which opened at Chichester Festival Theatre. After touring nationally it opened on the West End at the Noel Coward Theatre in 2009 and ran for just under a year, before a second National tour. In 2015 Tim Firth teamed up with Gary Barlow to turn this classic tale into a musical production which was unveiled for audiences at the Leeds Grand Theatre, shortening the title to The Girls. The West End production opens in January 2017 at the Phoenix Theatre and is sure to delight London audiences.
