Metropol Parasol is a remarkable contemporary wooden building in La Encarnacion square in the Old Town of central Seville. It was designed by the German architect Jurgen Mayer-Hermann and in sharp contrast to the Moorish and later Gothic architecture of Seville, much of which dates to the era of Christopher Columbus, it was completed in 2011. At 150 by 70 metres and 26 metres high it is believed to be the biggest wooden structure in the world. The design has earned this remarkable structure the local nickname, Las Setas de la Encarnacion (Encarnacion`s mushrooms).
