A very good hotel, great location, friendly and helpful staff, really clean and the breakfast very good. Would definitely return, only downside is the noise from the main road at night if your room is at the front of the hotel

All the fascilities at the hotel were good. The only slight disappointment was on arrival, the offer I had booked stated 2 single beds and free breakfast in the deal, but I had to explain and point this out for reception staff. Surely staff should be aware of online booking deals to prevent customers feeling as if they have misunderstood the offer- it was on the printout.

It was booked as breakfast included. However, confirmation came room only. We have to pay for breakfast. The information given was wrong ! it should give us accurate information.

"Room first class but not dining room!!!!"
Young man at desk very polite and helpful.Room 640 was on 6th floor at the front,and was immaculate!Noise doesn`t bother us as we live on a noisy main road anyway!My partner felt ill so didn`t have dinner,but I ordered steak very well done,and it was as tough as old boots! Couldn`t eat it. Just ate the chips and tomato.The waitress said we could have a drink each but we declined.Manager never came near,yet he was at the man at next table,THREE times asking if everything was ok etc.A bit much I would say.Also,regarding my meal,it arrived on a cold plate!!!What kind of chef does not heat the plates?Yes,we would stay again as it is so handy for everywhere, but would definitely not eat there.The draughts from windows was dreadful.Heard another lady asking to move table for that reason.Apart from dining experience,we would say go for it!!!

"Most satisfied with all aspects of the hotel. Staff were friendly, welcoming & competent."
We will certainly make use of the King James in future and would recommend it to friends and family. We are a little concerned about `rumours` of major structural/building changes in the immediate area and we trust that the hotel will remain in situ ad infinitum.

"decent basic hotel"
We were in Delux king size room which was small though quite comfortable, the bathroom was very small with the usual accoutrements, however no conditioner, which my Wife says is a must. We had a meal in the restaurant which we both enjoyed and the staff were all polite and very helpful, however for the price we paid for two nights I would expect a bathroom where I could swing a cat if I so desired, also very disappointed to have no fridge in the room (regard this as a must) breakfast was as standard, going cold quickly due to cool plates. Would not rate hotel as 4 star at best 3 star

"Nice Hotel, Great Location!"
Hi, I booked this hotel for an overnight stay in February,whilst arriving very early (9am) i was given my room by a very friendly receptionist.Room was a king size deluxe, very spacious, very clean and great value, well worth the £80 or so i spent, Did not eat at the hotel, but bar staff were friendly and efficient. All in all would highly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying at the Thistle again.

We only stayed for one night. On arrival the receptionist was very pleasant . Our stay was nice but have to say we stayed in room 537 and didn`t get much sleep as it looks onto the main road. So found it very noisy and didn`t sleep well. The room was very clean and tidy . Would stay again as it was very central to the playhouse which was why we strayed. But next time would insist on another room away from main road in order to get a nitghts sleep

"enjoyable overnight stay"
We had a lovely deluxe room with king size bed. well furnished with two armchairs and a desk chair. Bathroom very nice also. Our room (425) overlooks Leith road which is very busy. A wee bit noisy. Breakfast was excellent, very fresh. Staff are attentive and pleasant. We will be back.

"Excellent position to explore Edinburgh"
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night break. Although situated next to a shopping mall with a busy main street outside we asked for and were given a quiet room - 6th floor at the back. Room very clean, well designed and refurbished. All staff friendly and helpful. Great table overlooking the street for dinner - slight mix up re one meal but handled well. Would definitely recommend.

Nice room, plenty of room and everything you`d want, clean with it. Good quick check in and out. Minor gripe that 1 of the 2 lifts was out of order. Other than that my only problem was the rain...

"Weekend stay in Edinburgh"
We chose this hotel because it was central. There was a group of us all going to dinner one night and a wedding the next day. The hotel was convenient for the hairdressers, make up at John Lewis, the venue etc. The facilities were good, the room was clean and the staff were friendly. We only ate breakfast while we were there but there was plenty of choice. It was good value for the money. Parking was also good value in the St. James Centre because the hotel validate your parking token which makes it much cheaper.

my wife and 2 friends have just returned from a break in edinburgh and we stayed at the king james, it was a really nice place to stay at, the staff were very pleasant and would go out their way to assist you and the rooms were very clean and kept in good order, the bathroom was smashing, and everything worked, the hotel is situated right in the middle of the city just a minutes walk from the waverly railway, station, only complaint is the bar area could do with a bit of paint here and there other than that a really nice place to stay

no complaints about hotel from about 11pm to 4 15am the noise outside the hotel was not acceptable people shouting swearing police sirens blaring when the flashing lights would have been enough at that time in the morning i counted five times booming exhausts from certain cars i will not be back i would not recomend,on these grounds, the hotel to anyone,sorry
