History of the Attraction
Designed by Renzo Piano the shard has come to dominate the London skyline with its stark angular design that contrasts with the elaborate architecture in the surrounding area. The concept behind the building was one of a self-contained city, and with its retail spaces, offices and hotel it fulfils the criteria perfectly. Officially opened by Boris Johnson in 2013 the View from the Shard had over a million visitors in its first year and continues to be one of the most popular attraction sin London.
Interesting facts
Over 95% of the materials used in its construction were recycled.
The glass used in its construction is enough to cover 8 football fields.
