The Show
Oscar Wilde's play A Woman of No Importance is set for revival this October with Classic Spring Theatre Company. Set up by Shakespeare's Globe's former artistic director Dominic Dromgoole and producer Nica Burns, the Classic Spring theatre company will focus on classic playwrights and this year will bring to the Vaudeville Theatre an Oscar Wilde season. The season will celebrate Wilde's four great Victorian plays, the first of which being A Woman of No Importance.

Like Wilde's other society plays, A Woman of No Importance satirizes upper class society. The play begins at a party hosted by Lady Hunstanton and follows the guests as they gossip about others in their circle. The play explores Lord Illingworth and his relationship with Mrs Arbuthnot, who carries a secret. As the story unfolds the secret is revealed and we learn more about the character's histories.

With Olivier Award-winner, Eve Best starring, A Woman of No Importance is bound to thrill audiences for the opening of the Wilde season.

History of A Woman of No Importance
A Woman of No Importance premiered on 19th April 1893 at London's Haymarket Theatre. Since its premier the play has been performed on stages in Europe and North America.

The play was performed in New York and was due to go on tour but Wilde was arrested following his feud with the Marquess of Queensberry. The tour was cancelled and never happened.
