The Show
Set in the fictional, middle-eastern city of Agrabah, Aladdin is the story of a young homeless boy who, after finding a Genie in a lamp, sets out to win the affections of a beautiful Princess. There are plenty of laughs and shocks along the way as Aladdin battles the evil Jafar for Princess Jasmine's hand in marriage. Fans of the Disney animated film will be glad to hear that the show features some of the films best known songs such A Whole New World, Friend Like Me, Arabian Nights and One Jump Ahead.

History of Aladdin
Based on the hugely popular 1992 animated Disney film of the same name, Aladdin premiered as a stage musical in Seattle in 2011. Following a short run there, the musical was then shown in several regional cities throughout the US before settling into the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway in February 2014.
The UK production will be officially opening in June 2016 at the Prince Edward Theatre in London's West End.

Awards and what the critics have to say
The original Broadway production of the show has won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical and an Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.
Critics have given good reviews:
'It's spritely ... well sung ... and hits that sweet spot Disney Theatrical Productions do so well, a saccharine fairy tale for the kids cut by some sly, vinegary quips for their parents.' -Associated Press
'If Disney Theatrical's latest production doesn't sustain that frenzied high throughout, it delivers a rush that may surprise folks who attend either as chaperones or to relive their own youths.' -USA Today
'Overall, this is one of the better Disney stage musicals, complete with several eye-popping production numbers' -Entertainment Weekly

Interesting facts about Aladdin
The role of the Genie in the film was written especially for Robin Williams. Whilst recording Williams did several celebrity impressions including Jack Nicholson and Arnold Schwarzenegger which were then re-adapted for the character.
The animated character of Aladdin was initially planned to be a 13 year old boy, which was eventually changed to 18 when the character was re-development and loosely modelled on Tom Cruise.
