The Show
Meet Nomax. He's broke, unlucky in love and down in the dumps. When it feels like the whole world's against him, a simple switch of the radio releases the soulful harmonies of Five Guys Named Moe and suddenly life seems much sweeter. Songs by jazz pioneer Louis Jordan are effortlessly performed by Big Moe, Four Eyed Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe and Little Moe. Hits including 'Early in the Morning' and 'Choo Choo Ch'Boogie' are sure to help Nomax groove on to a happier place. Five Guys Named Moe was written by Clarke Peters (The Wire) in 1990 and Cameron Mackintosh and Underbelly's new production brings the show back to the West End to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Jordan's legendary swinging rhythms and upbeat tempos are accompanied with vibrant choreography and a powerful live band. The show's infectious soundtrack means you're guaranteed to tap your toes along! The Marble Arch Theatre has been purposely redesigned to take you back to 1940s New Orleans with a stylish cocktail bar to match. Make sure to catch Mackintosh and Underbelly's jazz extravaganza which captures the heart and soul of authentic Rhythm and Blues...Let the good times roll!

History of Five Guys Named Moe
Clarke Peters wrote Five Guys Named Moe in 1990, inspired by a musical of the same name by Louis Jordan from 1943. Peters' musical premiered at London's Theatre Royal Stratford East and followed a four year span in the West End. Five Guys Named Moe hit Broadway in 1992 showing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre and received fantastic feedback. Recordings from the musical were put onto CD to buy. Paulette Randall directed the musical at the Edinburgh Festival in 2010, later returning to the West End, in which Peters starred as Nomax. Cameron Mackintosh and Underbelly's new adaptation remains true to the original and brings the show back to the West End where it all began.

The Guardian express "it's a heady celebration of a man you never knew you were a fan of," showing you don't necessarily have to know Jordan's music beforehand to fall in love with the show. The Guardian also state it's "a jukebox musical with [...] all of the feel-good spirit." Continuing the idea of a care-free performance, in an interview with London News Online director Cameron Mackintosh emphasises how "Underbelly's unique style will give audiences [...] a special intimate experience [making] it the best party in town." Equally, the Daily Mail describes the musical as "a class act with top-drawer singing and dancing."
