Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley MusicalGet Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical
The Show
The inspiring story of one of music's most radical pioneers, Get Up, Stand Up! is a thrilling exploration of the life and work of reggae artist Bob Marley, told through his songs. Featuring iconic tunes like "Jamming" and "Three Little Birds," Get Up, Stand Up! follows Marley's life and career: his beginnings in Nine Mile, Jamaica, his rise to stardom in 1970s London, and his tireless political activism. Through Michael Duke's brilliant lead performance, we come to understand Bob Marley not just as a musician, but a bold and uncompromising voice for the oppressed. Directed by West End veteran Clint Dyer - working in collaboration with award-winning choreographer Shelley Maxwell - Get Up, Stand Up! is a touching and intimate portrait of a revolutionary artist whose music and message continue to resonate even to this day.

History of Get Up, Stand Up!
The idea for Get Up, Stand Up! was first formed in 2020 by writer Lee Hall and original director Dominic Cooke. After Cooke stepped down in 2020, Clint Dyer - director, actor and self-described Marley fanatic - took over production. With Dyer at the helm of a hugely talented cast and crew, Get Up, Stand Up! premiered in London's celebrated Lyric Theatre in October 2021, and has wowed audiences and critics alike ever since.

Awards and what the critic say
Get Up, Stand Up has been nominated for 4 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical and Best Actor. Gabrielle Brooks was also nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as singer Rita Marley, Bob Marley's wife. Evening Standard critic Jessie Thompson described the show as "a visual delight as well as a musical one," and the Guardian's Arifa Akbar wrote that the show "defies an audience not to sing or sway along."

Interesting facts about Get Up, Stand Up!
Get Up, Stand Up! is the second on-stage depiction of Bob Marley's life - the first was One Love, a US production that briefly ran in Baltimore in 2015 and again in Birmingham two years later. At one point during rehearsals, director Clint Dyer spent three days directing via Zoom after a false positive Covid-19 test.
