"The 3 day midweek break"
Situated in a reasonably central location the Royal Terrace provided a good hotel to choose for a first visit to Edinburgh. You can walk from the train station to the hotel, but stick to the main road and don`t follow you phone sat nav through the park unless you like exercise. The room was good located on the 3rd floor and we had a great view over the city. I suspect other rooms may have had a more limited view, so I think we were fortunate. The shower had a missing lever on the on/off control (room 322) Staff were cheerful and attentive in most cases. Breakfast was OK. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening and chose one of the many local restaurants. We passed by the Scottish Parliament on the hop on/off bus but Mrs Murrell was nowhere to be seen. The buses are a great way to see the city. All in all an enjoyable 3 days despite a day of full rain when we went to the Scottish Museum (free entry but you can donate) The museum is big (and I mean big)

"Good weekend stay"
Quick and easy check in. Room was good. Friendly staff. Only disappointment was that the steam room wasn`t working and the swimming pool was freezing cold. Think there may have been a problem with the heating as other guests had no hot water in their rooms. Sure it would be rectified soon.Otherwise a lovely relaxing stay.

"A bit dated"
Staff lovely but the hotel could do with a revamp in some areas. We were in a basement room and it was cold and smelled of damp with nothing of a view, indeed we needed to keep the curtains closed to stop people looking in. We were awoken in the early hours with room service attempting to delivery a pizza which we had not ordered and were a little dissapointed with the cleanliness in the dining room for breakfast, the carpet was un vaccummed and our table had not been cleaned.
