"In the space of 24hrs there were 3 fire alarms, one of them @ 8.30 on a Sunday morning."
The room was quite small and the bed was a tight fit for my wife and I. The food overall was nice however some of the items on the breakfast buffet were underdone, particularly the bacon.
We stayed here for two night and had a great time. Hotel was clean and had a great feel about the place. The bar was busy and staff where really friendly. Would recomend to anyone. Only problem we had was, we booked a double room and all we got was two beds pushed together. They could of made the two beds into one but just pushed two made single beds together. I guess they didn`t have the time to make it into one. We did mention this to reception straight away but didn`t get much help there. It wasn`t much of a problem apart from falling down the middle trying to get a cuddle off my good lady ha
We enjoyed our midweek break. Plenty to see and do.
" welcoming people. I would return anytimeIt is a long time since I have met with such"
"Celebrated our 40th Anniversary and had a fab time "
We have been before and would definitely book up again the staff are always helpful and the food was was very nice
"cold room and very basic quite await for breakfast also notice glsses etc left outside bedrooms for "
stretched and up selling staff not relaxed
"Very pleasant experience"
Great staff who look after you very well from the moment you check in to checking out (and even after that). Our first choice hotel when we stay in Edinburgh.
"Poor Show at The George in Edinburgh"
Nice hotel and brilliant staff BUT!!!! booked double room was more like single room with double bed squeezed in, only a shower no bath, room faced main street no double glazing very noisy night club across road so no sleep. In morning stood in queue for 15 mins until chefs restocked hot buffet, in meantime staff cleared our table in restaurant. No apologies when I informed the reception at checkout.THINK I WILL GIVE THE GEORGE A MISS IN FUTURE.LETS HOPE THE MANGER DOES SOME URGENT STAFF TRAINING
"hotel was very nice and in a great central location , but one disappointment is breakfast - bad serv"
The breakfast set up was poor - guest had to queue for up to 20mins to get seated then a further 20 min queue to wait for food
Room cold during the day and at night, (some guests requested heaters)
Stayed at the George for my mothers 89th Birthday and we both had a fabulous time. Couldn`t fault the hotel. The rooms were lovely, the food was good and the staff were particularly courteous and very helpful. The location was within easy walking distance of Waverley Station. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Look forward to staying again at some point in the future.
Was a little disappointed with the size of the double room ,had bigger premier inn rooms!the water in the bathroom was Luke warm and the towel rail was not heated, even though the hotel said there was complementary tea and coffee was only given one teabag for each person even though we requested more. Thought the room would have been more plush for a four star but overall it was okay think I would consider some where else next time even though location was very good
"Good service and Hotel in good position."
"excellent accommodation; efficient and friendly staff"
Great location in Edinburgh; rooms clean and equipped well; staff friendly; only downside was late entry to room. Breakfast was excellent.
Great location, lovely bar, rooms spotless and vey helpful staff, will book again.
Very comfortable room, very good food, great staff and great atmosphere.Very enjoyable stay.
"city centre location"
"Impressive hotel in great location with high quality standard rooms, excellent restaurant and bar. "
We had a lovely stay at the George for our wedding anniversary. Having booked the pamper your partner package we found it to be great value as breakfast was included and we received a room upgrade with strawberries dipped in chocolate and chocolate truffles in the room and a complimentary glass of champagne in the bar. The staff were very attentive and we couldn`t fault the customer service. The furnishings were of a high standard and the bar area was particularly inviting.Overall an excellent stay in a lovely hotel. We will be back again.
"a very comfortable stay"
We purchased 1 night at the George from Hotels Direct.com and were very pleased with the price!
"Rooms great and staff were very attentive."
A very warm reception as soon as we entered the hotel. We enjoyed the specail touches with champagne and strawberries.Breakfast was excellent, all staff were friendly and helpful.Would have no hesitation in reccommending this hotel. We would certainly love to return sometime.
From the moment we entered the hotel and were greeted with a welcoming drink and courteous service at reception, we had a wonderful stay. The staff were excellent and the room, the breakfast and the setting were without fault. Enjoyed our short stay at Edinburgh, we will be returning hopefully at the end of May and also to do some christmas shopping in December. I wouldnt think of looking at an alternative hotel.
"Booked a gift to partner opion and should have included champagne , choc & stawberrys but champagne "
Didn`t use any facilites other than two bedrooms. One bedroom clearly had a no smoking sign on the door, but reeked of stale smoke and was very unpleasant. The beds though were very comfortable. Good discounted price paid. Would not have been happy paying more.
Great customer service and very pretty hotel decor but having to evacuate the building at 3:00 am for a false fire alarm keeps the review from being excellent.
"Very enjoyable stay had a lovely time."
Hotel room was lovely and staff were very attentive.
Brilliant staff, rooms, food - everything was just perfect and I would recommend and stay again in this hotel. Thank you.
"enjoyable stay. staff welcoming and helpful."
One or two details need sorted like draughty windows on top floor, no shelf in bathroom, no mirror in bedroom near hair dryer plug etc.Obviously designed by a man!
"Very clean and comfortable."
Could`nt find fault with an overnight stay.
"Very Friendly Staff"
corridor and stairwell areas very tired looking, rooms cleand and tidy but no shoe shine available.
Enjoyable visit and very good value for money. Service was excellent.
"Excellent location. Helpful staff and well appointed rooms."
Enjoyed our stay in the main. Room allocated was very well equipped and comfortable but located very near staff rooms and this meant lots of comings and goings late at night in the corridor outside. We eat in the main dining room one evening which is in the adjoining bar and food facility known as `Tempus.` We enjoyed a quiet drink there on the first night with very pleasant service but on the second evening ourselves and other guests, mainly of our age, were assailed with loud, booming music which was clearly only for the benefit of the young female staff behind the bar. There was no escaping this cacophony of heavy, bass driven and non-stop beat which made conversation almost impossible and continued after eleven pm. Not waht you`d expect in this type of establishment. We won`t be coming back because after a day at the festival you want to talk not shout to be heard.
A lovely hotel, friendly staff and a ridiculously comfortable bed. The only quibble I have is the breakfast, thought it was very poor for the quality of hotel.
"Standard and service excellent as usual with welcome drink a nic etouch "
"lovely hotel. excellent staff however no air con in rooms therefore extremely hot at night."
"Top class excellent value"
"Well situated 4 star hotel but let down by having no air conditioning in the bedrooms."
Only real disappointment was that there was no air conditioning in the bedroom. We left the windows open all day to minimise the build up of heat but had to close them at night due to outside noise. Our break was in May and the weather wasn`t at all warm outside.I would therefore definitely not return during the hot Summer months knowing that the rooms would be so uncomfortable due to the lack of AC.The rest of the hotel had AC so why couldn`t they extend that to the bedrooms? The hotel itself is a lovely hotel and the staff were very attentive. It is ideally situated for accessibility to the tourist sights and amenities of the city.
We had a lovely time at the George the room was very clean and fresh and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate at the Tempus restaurant where the meal was delicious. We would definately come back.
"Very good food and room fine for an overnight stay"
Reception staff courteous and efficienct. Dinner was excellent - all three courses were very good and service was very efficient too. Tempus dining room has a good atmophere. Room a bit on the small side and quite cold when I entered, but furnishings are all fine and bed very comfortable. Shower could do with more power and some form of shelf above the sink would be helpful to put razor etc onto. Radio 4 on TV isn`t actually Radio 4. Didn`t receive ordered newspaper in mornng. However, only material comment is lack of WiFi in room, which needs to be addressed.
"Very dissapointed as breakfast not in usual area"
On this occassion I visited with my husband for our wedding anniversary I had told him about the environment for breakfast so I must admit I was really dissapointed when we were shown to the "overflow" area
