Kew Gardens from 1st April

The Attraction
Located just 30 minutes from central London, Kew Gardens are the most famous botanical gardens in the world consisting of glass houses, historic buildings and a huge collection of over 30,000 rare plants. Visitors can explore the Palm House which is one of the largest surviving Victorian glasshouses in the world and hosts an amazing collection of palms and other varieties to create an indoor tropical rainforest. Other sights of interest are the Pagoda and Queen Charlotte's Cottage as well as a number of Henry Moore sculptures which are located throughout the gardens. A recent addition for those who don't mind heights is the treetop walkway which at 18 metres high gives an unparalleled view of a woodland glade.

History of the Attraction
With a history of gardens in the area dating back many hundreds of years it was not until 1840 that Kew were adopted as a national botanical garden due to the efforts of the Royal Horticultural Society. With the construction of the Palm House between 1844 and 1848 it allowed the gardens to host more exotic plants including an attempt to cultivate rubber trees outside of South America.

Having entertained and informed visitors for hundreds of years the gardens were put on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 2003 and has become one of London's top tourist attraction.

Interesting Facts
The gardens have their own police force known as the Kew Constabulary who have been operating since 1847.

There are 22 miles of paths at Kew Gardens, enough for even the most adventurous visitor.
