"a wondferful short break "

Stayed two nights march 13 despite the really cold weather we had a wonderful time . The hotel is so central to all tourist attractions , we had 2rooms both with beautiful views of the gardens and Castle .Wasn`t even checked out of hjotel when we decided to return later in the year .

"A Birthday Treat."

An excellent hotel, perfect for our needs as central due to my partner having mobility problems. Staff very friendly and helpful, especially with being able to leave luggage before check in and after checking out.Breakfast was lovely and fresh and plenty of it. Room had a view of castle, nice lit up at night. Would definitely use again and would recommend

"friendly and courteous staff..made to feel very welcome"

Arrived for a two night stay on a cold January night but made to feel very welcome by reception staff. Room was cosy, clean and lovely and warm. The hotel itself was well positioned and handy for all local amenities i.e. bars, restaurants, shops and castle.Hotel restaurant had a very good aspect with plenty of choice for breakfast....would certainly stay there again

"Cosy,Friendly, helpful staff & Amazing location to see everything in Edinburgh !"

When we got off the coach station we were 5 minutes away from hotel which was amazing as we travelled for 10 hours from Bournemouth ! We did walk past the hotel as it was basically a door in the main highstreet, when entering we were checked in quite quickly and taken to the room. The room was a really nice double junior room but immediately recognised a humming sound from outside the window which turned out to be some ventilation fans,We went straight to the lobby and they gave us another room which turned out to be the best nights sleep we ever had ,It was a king sized bed with remote controlled room temparture ,Lovely bathroom and when the lights were off it was so dark at night there was nothing to disturb us .With all the basic gadgets you need ie iron/board ,hairdryer etc.. we highly recommend this hotel :)

"Hidden Gem of a hotel"

I stayed at the Old Waverly at my daughters suggestion. I am glad I listened. The hotel has a fantastic location near the train station and close to the bus for the Edinburgh airport. The staff was very helpful! I plan on staying there again soon! Only problem, the ever present stairs in Scottish hotels!

"pokey wee room with small round window overlooking rooftops. "

We stayed in room 618 for 2 nights & it reminded me of a 1 night stay we had in a Blackpool Guest House in the 70`s. Absolutely horrific. On the 2nd night we were wakened at 2.00 am by the racket from next door. We hoped they would fall asleep but by 2.25am we phoned reception to complain. Someone knocked on their door(about 3/4 times) before he made himself heard. Peace for about 3 minutes & it started again. We assumed the person would come back to check but at 2.55 we phoned again& again peace was restored for about 5 mins. We gave up & the noise continued until 5.45. We mentioned it when we checked out & they said they were on a final warning after the 2nd visit & that we should have phoned a third time. I would have expected the night porter to take responsibility after 2 calls but no checks werre made. They were less than helpful. Hotel Direct & Waverley are off our lists & certainly not recommended. Worst hotel experience & room since the 70`s

The Hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location perfect for shops and sight seeing. The only complaint was the shower which was ineffective.(This may be because we were on the 6th floor and lack of water pressure). But overall we enjoyed our stay.

"A hotel of many contrasts!"

Rooms at the front of the hotel have wonderful views of the busy shopping thoroughfare of Princes Street, with Scott`s Monument across the road and Edinburgh Castle on the skyline beyond .Everything is within easy reach - from Harvey Nicholls to the range of dining choices available on nearby George Street. Rooms at the back of the hotel are relatively small and overlook a dreary building. The best advice is to pay more for aroom with a view! However the absence of blinds in the bathrooms, combined with floor to ceiling [lightly frosted] windows are not for the very modest!Nevertheless we will be returning to theOld Waverley.

Helpful friendly staff, breakfast good. Good value for money for a city centre hotel.

"Pleasant, central hotel"

If you want to be right in the centre of Edeinburgh then this hotel is a great option- opposite the Scott Monument on Princes Street. Rooms are in reasonable condition and communal areas are nice. Reception is one floor up which may be an issue is you struggle with stairs- once you get there though, the upper floors are served by a lift. Breakfast is buffet style and one day we struggled to get tea and coffee from staff (then ended up with two sets!) but otherwise it was good. We tried the hotel dinner menu, which seemed a little pricey when there are numerous restaurants nearby where you`ll get better food and much better choice. I`d stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.

Overall the hotel was excellent we enjoyed our stay and would book there again when in Edinburgh if there is a critism it would be that the lift would be more helpful if it went to the street level especially if the more elderly where to stay there but our party had no complaints

"great central location"

staff very helpful. food really good. stayed in hotel for evening meal, bill was cheaper than resteurants and bars near at hand. unfortunately, ther shambollic mess at present that is Princes Street, means noise polution is high, but that will apply to all hotels in the locality. room clean and comfortable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. Room was very clean & beds very comfortable. The view from room 610 was brilliant. Only small drawback was that I had to climb 114 stairs about 3 times daily. I can`t go into lifts as I suffer from claustrophobia !! I did request a lower room way back in March, but unfortunately this didn`t happen. However, the exercise has probably done me good !!!!! Overall an enjoyable stay throughout.

"Stay at Old Waverly Hotel Edinburgh"

We realy enjoyed our stay at the hotel and have no complaints whatever. We did not dine in the hotel in the evening but went to Amicus Apple which was two streets away and would have no hesitation in recommending both these places for a stay in Edinburgh.Well done.

We were disappointed with the draft from the windows in our room especially as the bed was directly underneath. There was also no power from the shower and the water was reduced to a trickle at 8am. We didn`t feel it was appropriate to seek help at the time of the morning but it was extremely annoying trying to shower without requisite water. The hotel itself was welcoming and the breakfast was good.
