Accommodations were very comfortable and generally terrific. The only drawback was no elevator from ground level.

"The service in the bar and breakfast/dining room was excellent and the room was very comfortable."

The steps up to Reception were rather daunting especially for the elderly carrying suitcases!

"Good location"

Good location; bar meals good. Breakfast slightly disappointing - could have been more continental choices. No natural light in Room 207 and could not reach to turn air conditioning off. Chilly in bar on the Friday evening.

"Excellent location"

The hotel is very central for sightseeing and night life. The room was quite small but was clean and had everything you need. We did not eat in the hotel so can not comment on that but the service at reception was great.

When we arrived at your hotel we found the staff excellent and very helpful and the room was very good unfortunately my partner took unwell and we had to catch an early train back to motherwell so we were unable to enjoy Edinburgh but we would like to thank your staff for their help

"Very convenient for Waverley station"

Room was clean & OK but the restaurant is basic and expensive for what it does.

"Great room, great location."

Location is amazing, a stones throw away from Waverley station. Room was lovely, had access to freeview channels on the television. Comfy bed, clean room, only complaint is the wifi isn`t grea. Overall, great stay!

"Well trained young staff."

Reception was expecting me and ran through the breakfast arrangements, that was worth getting up for. Room clean and had a pleasant outlook, provided everything needed for a short stay.

"Faulty Towers... without the laughs."

I wasn`t a fan of this hotel. Shower was appalling. To say they have a issue with their water pressure would be an understatement. TV didn`t work. Staff weren`t the best either. Harsh but very fair.

"Extremely ugly and small room for the price paid"

We`ve paid £264 for two nights. The AC when put on (you need it even if it`s -10 outside, the room was more the size of a cupboard) was making a lot of noise at one point I thought it might take off and fly off the wall. There was the tiniest window I`ve ever seen looking into some sort of building because it looked permanently like it was night outside. When we went out it was very sunny. Staff were really nice. Didn`t dine there. Not staying there again. Not in the same room anyway. The location is great very central but not worth the money.

"Awesome location"

Located near Waverley rail station and the Waverley Bridge (bus transportation). Cool old building with a lot of character. Had to pay for wifi and we were serenaded by drunken party goers for two nights (lots of nearby pubs), but otherwise very cool hotel. Would stay there again. BTW, this is an old hotel so the lift is small and entering the Hotel is a bit of struggle.

"Good value for money. Centrally situated. Super breakfast."

I had booked a single room and one never quite knows what that will be like. (I`ve experienced some broom up I booked a single room and was pleased tifind I had booked a single room and this was certainly no broomcupboard( experienced elsewhere). Light and airy, full view of the Scott Memorial, good clean room, all facilities including iron and board. The bathroom had both shower and bath, large towels. Fourth floor but lift very near. Housekeeping requests dealt with promptly and cheerfully. Staff mainly foreign but polite and efficient in every way. I would stay again with the Hotel Direct discount.

"As required"

Served a purpose for exactly what I required - room clean & comfortable, all that was required for a one night stay was in it. Bed was very comfortable, had a good nights sleep. Staff friendly and efficient. Would stay again although if staying for longer would request a room with an alternative view to a brick wall !! but was acceptable for a one night stay.

Tradional style doesnt appear to have undergone any unnecessary changes to its character. Nice friendly reception staff.

"Lovely hotel"

My friends and I stayed here for the weekend and had a lovely time. Our rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. It`s central location is fabulous however you have to be prepared for the traffic noise from princes street. The buffet breakfast was adequate for our needs. The staff were absolutely great and so friendly.

"Decoration and double glazing"

This hotel is in need of being decorated and a definite is double glazing, especially to the bedroom windows on Princes Street as the noise never stops. On the whole though we enjoyed our stay and if we return to Edinburgh we would stay there again. Food and staff cannot be faulted. Thanks for a memorable stay.

"excellent value for the position on Princess Street."

This hotel was just where we wanted to be, walked to the Castle and the Omni in the New Town. I would book again.

"Very comfortable, rooms good, "

Main comment would be the apparent lack of staff at breakfats time and at checkin. Self Service breakfast, whilst the food was satisfactory the organisation of the replenishing of empty dishes was very slow and cramped area with people standing.

"Convenient, comfortable and very clean."

The service was excellent and all staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and served in a pleasant dining room. The room was very clean with comfortable beds and the bathroom was very nice. Some parts of the hotel perhaps needed a makeover, but this didn`t detract from a really pleasant stay. Rooms at the front of the hotel could I think be noisy as the hotel is on Princes St. but side rooms and those higher up should be fine. The hotel was very well situated, making it convenient for shops, restaurants and bars. I would definitely stay here again.

"Excellent location, but room smelt of cigarette smoke"

Great location on Princes Street, so close to shops, restaurants, great view of castle, but was dissapointed by the stale cigarette smell in the room. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and nice. Also dissapointed in the cooked breakfast, would`nt reccomend the sausages and scrambled eggs.

Rooms are modern and very comfortable, however some of the common areas are a mix of traditional and aged. The breakfast was more than adequate. Would stay here again and would check their website for any special deals.

"Lovely Hotel and very central"

We enjoyed a lovely stay in Edinburgh and would stay again in the Old Waverley as the room was lovely and cosy, clean and had everything you would need. The staff were polite and efficent and attentive. The only suggestion I would have is the bar was very chilly and it would have been nice if the woodburner fire had been on especially as there was a large sign warning of the dangers of it being hot!
