great service apart from lack of cover on concierge desk - almost missed our train as we had to wait over 15 mins for someone to get our bags out of storage. Reception was manned only by one peron who was attenfing to a queue of about 8 or 10 peopoe whilst the phone was ringing out. Other than that no problems - lovely room and super breakfast.

"Good Location, central for everything, staff and service excellent"

We could not understand some of the negative comments made , ie small rooms, noisey, cold food, we were very pleased with all aspects, and it lived up to its 4* rating, better than some we have visited.

Overall a very good hotel, the only problem was the room was slightly too warm for my liking even opening the windows seemed to have little effect, I assume it was because the room was on the 5th floor and the heat from lower floors was rising up to the top of the hotel. We found the Tempus resturant to be good value for money (3 course meal for two came to about £70), the food was good with a modern twist and the place had a lively feel to it although at times was a little too noisey, possibly due to poor acoustics of the room.

"Great central location"

I really enjoyed my stay at The George. The room was really great, although the bathroom felt rather claustrophobic and there was no shower cap provided. However, the hairdryer was the best I`ve ever used in a hotel as it wasn`t one that you had to keep your finger on the button to keep it turned on. The staff were all very efficient and helpful. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. The Tempus Bar did excellent cocktails and food and again the staff were extremely helpful and friendly which made my stay even more enjoyable. The Tempus was a great location to do some people watching! All in all, an excellent location for shopping, eating and drinking and only 5 minutes walk from the railway station. I would certainly stay at The George again.

"Very poor breakfasts"

Room small but otherwise good. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfasts really poor - the cooked stuff must be all ready by the time you open I think and then just sit there getting luke warm and dried up - the continental pastries must have been baked in 2008

The hotel is lovely with good staff, lovely layout, nice food and great location. My wee brother recommended us to stay there and now I would do the same - will be back hopefully soon.

"Very nice hotel in the heart of Edinburgh"

Bathroom sufficient for an overnight stay but when you`re six foot six the room and bathroom sizes come into play when looking at the whole purchased package. I will be staying again but will be looking to book a family room to compare against.

A really well placed hotel- straight out onto George Street, with good facilities. The room was tastefully and contemporarily styled and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great. My only niggles were the very noisy air-con and bulky pillows (a matter of personal taste and I didn`t ask for a replacement).

"Really enjoyed the stay and staff excellent."

The rooms were very hot with no cooling or airflow facilities. Rooms very good standard though and kept very clean. Restaurant food very good as was service - experienced dirty glasses one evening but quickly changed. Would stay again.

"Pity about the 0100 to 0330 street noise from all the night club revellers.........."

Very, very clean room and bathroom. All service provided. Staff very polite and helpful. The down side was Breakfast. The buffet was of not a good standard ........a bit luke warm, fried eggs not a pretty picture swilling around in a pan of fat and the black pudding was `crispy` nearly all the way through.................suggestion at least have the `eggs` cooked served to order..........however the rest of the service just tipped the scales for `exellent`. ?. Do you get involved in the clubs `licence` granting/objections polls.

"Not Recommended"

Where shall I start? Lovely looking hotel and quite an impressive room, however, cleaner left dirty rubber glove on our bed, she also left old glasses/bottles on the side, she did not give me a clean water glass but turned the old one over to be reused, the tea/sugar was not topped up so we therefore were going to have to have coffee until we noticed she had not given us a clean coffee decanter and the old used coffee was suctioned to the bottom of it. Lift out of order and we were on top floor. Bar very noisy & too busy to get a seat.

"Very comfortable and well-appointed bedroom"

For such an impressive-looking hotel, breakfast was disappointing and the coffee undrinkable. But the room and the attention of the reception staff was excellent.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay"

We really enjoyed our two day stay at the George hotel. It was to celebrate my partners 50th birthday. If I had to pick a fault, it would be that the room was a little small and only enough draw space for a couple of nights stay..otherwise excellent!!

"Service/staff friendliness was very good - we enjoyed our stay & would stay again."

Speed of response in the bar on Saturday was very slow - bar was very noisy . Bathroom door had to be slammed(hard) in order to get it to shut! Lighting outside the hotel is poor.

Location of hotel and room good but breakfast was disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Slow service in restaurant at breakfast and cooked breakfast items rubbery and not entirely hot. On our arrival to our room , on the corridor there were trays/ cups/ plates/bottles and half finished food on floor outside doors which did not create a good impression. These items were still there ( including outside our room ) the next morning. In addition, our corridor was full of police as we arrived - clearly there had been a problem - maybe this should have been made lower profile?

"You won`t get much better than this in Edinburgh"

A first class hotel - rooms are excellent, food and service both good. The hotel`s own tariff is extortionate (up to £400 a night) but Hotel Direct got us a very good deal. My only criticism is that having paid a lot of money to stay there, The George chooses to charge you 50p per minute for internet access. This is not on these days - you should be able to assume a free connection as a paying guest.

as always we were not disappointed in the george hotel since we were last there the hotel has had a refit and is obviously catering for business/conference bookings, this has been done very tastefully it was avery busy weekend and the hotel was full on our second night. When we went for breakfast we were seated in a lower floor small conference room it was a good breakfast and the staff were 1st. class but the room was uninviting disappointing
