"Perfect spot, excellent"
We booked this hotel primarily for its position near Hyde Park for the BST concerts. Wow from the moment you approach the hotel with its doormen and huge lobby area filled with modern art and sculptures , I knew we`d made the right choice. We had an executive room which was spacious clean and well equipped , with a fantastic view over Oxford street and Marble Arch. Breakfast was fantastic, with everything you could possibly desire, including an omelette bar and a pastry counter as well as all the usuals. I loved this hotel and will definitely be coming again

I turned up rather upset after being let down by a booking company. I had traveled across London to get this room and was greeted with a friendly smile and a welcoming conversation. Upgraded straight away as it was my birthday and nothing seemed too much bother. Professional, smart and polite. You guys really made my weekend. We`ll definitely book again. Thank you.

"Good hotel in an excellent location"
The receptionist couldn`t have been more helpful in placing us near our elderly relative. The rooms were a good size and were clean. The beds were very comfortable and the housekeeping staff were always friendly and willing to help. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return when the occasion arises.

"It has gone downhill"
I think I last stayed at the Cumberland in 2008 and it was a very much nicer experience than last night. The room was cold, I tried to put the heating / air con up but it just continued to blow cold air. So getting into bed was the best option except the duvet was so thin you would have needed 2 to keep warm. In addition to a cold room, the TV reception was so poor it was worthless watching it. The noise from the air con units outside was so loud it kept me awake and to top it off the shower was barely warm! So you would have hoped the breakfast was good? All I had was toast and scrambled eggs and they couldn`t even get that right. The eggs were stone cold. Needless to say I left quickly!

Having specifically asked for a room away from the noisy air conditioning/ heating whirring that plagued us when visiting in June, low and behold we were given a different room which had a far more annoying consistent whirring. We were given a different room which was perfect. Unfortunately,the dampener to the stay was a fifty minute wait for drinks in the bar at 10.30pm. In the end we gave up waiting and popped around the corner to the Thistle Hotel; got served immediately.

The shower room lacks practicality. Unable to control direction of shower head with a consequence of a cold water flow before possibility of adjusting temperature.. Inadequate hangers for clothes. Toilet paper holder placed awkwardly- most people are right handed.

"A memorable sixteenth Birthday treat!"
It was my daughters sixteenth birthday, on arrival I told them this and they upgraded our room which was lovely. The staff where extremely helpful and even though it was a busy time seemed to go out of there way to make our stay a memorable one. Thank you will definitely stay there again.

"5 star lobby, 3 star rooms"
Top location, magnificent building, wonderful staff, superb lobby and good restaurants/bars. Rooms intensely disappointing - small, poorly-fitted and badly laid out; not even a full double, four-foot bed against the wall, sleazy and unnecessary, paper-thin duvet, slightly grubby net curtains, cheap pine-style furniture, empty mini-bar. Badly needs a re-fit but a lot could be done with better design within the existing room template. Bathroom much better, nice remote shower button on the wall. I wouldn`t stay here again without knowing what type of room I was getting, I`m sure there were better options but we looked at four rooms and they were all similar, beds against the wall all round, like cheap bedsits. Handy for Oxford street though! Oh, and one other thing: breakfast is in a windowless basement, overcrowded and claustrophobic - we took one look and went to Patisserie Valerie just opposite, which is excellent and much cheaper, Full English for eight quid.

Came back to hotel for a drink after the show and the hotel lobby resembled a airport lounge, people eating food from mc donalds brought in from outside the hotel and generally looking a mess.

"Just a little dissapointing"
I do appreciate snags appear now and again to interfere with the smooth running of the hotel,and although the three oclock room entry time became five oclock,I can easily understand how that may happen, and reception staff were first class. My gripe was the bar staff,who obviously are kept very busy, but I was stood in front of the bar for a good ten minutes without as much as a "wont be long sir". I was completely ignored while they prepared drinks. I finally asked " Is it table service" to which came an abrupt reply "yes". My response was "thanks for telling me" . I then found a seat and waited,and waited , while I noticed several customers DID get served at the bar. I returned to the bar and spoke to another attendant positioned at the right hand side of the bar,where there seemed no action. This chap did instigate some service to me immediately. If the main chap behind the bar smiled at all,I certainly missed it!

Have stayed here several times before. Always been good, but this time we were put in the building down the road. It was okay, but room was really warm and air con noisy. Pillows were not good. A bit disappointing.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to `The Cumberland`. Right from check-in, service was excellent and nothing too much bother for the staff. Exceptionally clean in public areas and the bedroom. This is my 3rd visit to this hotel and will keep returning as its location is also second to none.

The hotel was good and in an excellent location. However, our room was next to the stafflifts, which were operational through the night. It disturbed our sleep frequently. Although everything in the room was beautiful fitted out, it was the smallest room we ever had.
