"Spot on"

This hotel is modern and well pesented, clean and great value for money if book in advance. The location is perfect for just about all this Manchester too, right in the heart of Piccadilly Gardens.

"welcoming staff, hotel didn`t live up to expectations"

Not very clean, carpet/curtains disgusting, one lift working, doorway very narrow, tray charge too high, no Earl Grey tea available, not enough light to work at desk.

Hotel is in a good location. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was 1st class. Bedrooms were in need of a refit as they were not up to much. I would rate the hotel as a good 3 star but the bedrooms a average 2 star. Had a good stay but thought it was over priced for what it was.

"The room we stayed in (418) was very very small."

For the price we paid for the room (£154 B&B) it was very small and was way overpriced. The room had damp coming through the ceiling and was also very cold, we had to put the heater on that had been left in the room.

"Wouldn`t Recommend this hotel"

The room was small and stuffy...also the bathroom was extremely old and I did not think it seemed to be very clean. We got a meal on the first night and I chose something from the menu but was informed that they had run out, the second meal I decided upon was also not available. I thought this was bad service and we were the second table to be eating.

"Hotel is in need of an internal facelift. Bedrooms are very small, cramped and well overdue decorat"

Although the hotel is well placed it is "very tired" and in need of decoration. The rooms are very small, very cramped and despite the fact that when asked upon departure how we found our stay, we didn`t feel that our comments had been taken seriously. We have stayed in Manchester dozens of times and this was by far the worst (and quite expensive - so not good value for money!)

"OUR DOUBLE ROOM (NO:123) 2 * MAX"

ARRIVING AT THE THISTLE FROM THE OUTSIDE LOOKED GREAT, GREAT LOCATION,RECEPTION BAR ALL OF GROUNG FLOOR LOOKED GREAT, STAFF VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. THEN WE WALKED INTO OUR ROOM ..........GOB SMACKED........ IT WAS LIKE A RABBIT HUTCH, SMOKE ALARM HANGING OFF THE CEILING, NO VALANCE ON THE BED BASE, TILES BEHIND TOILET ALL LOOSE AND WORST OF ALL IT FELT LIKE A PRISON CELL OR DUNGEON AS THE VIEW FROM THE WINDOW WAS A METAL TANK LIKE A WATER TANK NO NATURAL LIGHT AT ALL. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THISTLE HAVE STAYED IN PREMIER INNS WITH FAR NICER BEDROOMS FOR HALF THE PRICE :-(

"Great location"

Very friendly reception and bar staff. But it was let down by the room.... the bathroom wasn`t cleaned proplerly (I had to clean the toilet seat before I used it!!), hair in the bath, and the teaspoons and kettle weren`t cleaned properly after the last guests.

"Noisy occupants"

I booked a twin room for myself and my friend. I telephoned before arrival to explain that it was a special weekend as she has had a very bad year and asked for a good room. However, room 454 had incredibly thin walls, we heard 455`s tv til the early hours (not too much of a problem) but when the occupants of room 453 arrived back to their room at 3.45am, shouting `here we go` etc, they obviously had more than the two occupants, at least 3 or 4 voices were heard and the door was forced to the degree that in the morning it appeared damage. The noise was such that we woke, startled, and alarmed, as someone tried our door as well. Although the hotel responded to our worries by informing security, I am amazed that these people were then allowed to stay another night. All in all, what was meant to be a treat for my sister, was totally unrelaxing as the following night we slept very badly for fear of a repeat performance.

"Room was far too hot, painters were painting the corridor, jacuzzi out of order in spa"

I don`t think this was value for money at £70 for a single occupancy room - the corridor smelt of paint, and indeed when I left there were painters painting it right outside my room! The room itself was clean and comfortable but so hot I slept extremely badly. Was disappointed not to be able to have a jacuzzi as it was out of order.

"rooms functional"

Location good, parking very near, rooms clean functional and small, corridors need to be refubished, 4 star ??? how...Reception staff helpful, a little to much information given when there was a que of 20 people waiting to check in, re breakfast, trying to promote the breakfast in a monatone voice repeated over and over again.

"Fantastic Breakfast"

We had a very enjoyable stay. The only comment I feel we should make is that there was a fire alarm activitated on the Saturday night. When me an my husband along with friends of ours and people from the pub tried to exit out of `nearest` fire exit we were told it was locked and to go to the front door upon reaching the front door we were again told that that was locked we were directed to the back ot the hotel where the meeting point was only to find that that is where the fire was and was engulfed in smoke. I think we should have been able to exit out the nearest fire exit door then been instructed to meet round the rear of the hotel. appart from that we had a extremely pleasent stay at your hotel. The breakfast was lovely. Thank you

Not sure if all rooms were the same but the ones I was in could be doing with being refurbished as they seemed a bit dated. The place wasn`t really dirty but didn`t really feel clean either. Location was great though and staff were very nice. Wouldn`t rush back though

"I liked the hotel and location but did not like the room at the side overlooking a nearby building."

Good friendly service with restaurant and bar service. I room at the side was overshadowed by a nearby building and spoilt it for me.

"Comfy and compact"

Was a clean and adequate room, however pictures on the website are slightly misleading. There should be more pictures of standard rooms. Friendly and helpful staff, would definitely stay again but not at the same price.

"Was quoted as being 4* but our room was a very poor standard"

Main foyer and facilities were lovely, friendly useful staff. However our room was off quite a poor standard, even way below your average Travelodge, Budget Hotel. Peeling wallpaper, very small outdated and untidy bathroom, ironing board with burn straight through it which rendered it useless. The worst thing was that I woke up with a rash on my face as the bottom sheet on the bed was a foot shorter than the mattress meaning my face actually rested on the bare mattress.

"SMALL ROOMS, VERY LITTLE REFRESHMENTS IN THE ROOM (1 BISCUIT), VERY POOR BAR"

Glad this was just a one night stay, very central, but very average at side of some of the hotels I have stayed in Manchester. The write up said tea, coffee and biscuits in the room, there was only enough to make one drink and there was just one single biscuit. The room was quite small but clean. We stayed at this hotel after going to a concert at the MEN, when we returned we ordered drinks at the bar, which were the price you would expect for a hotel but the lemonade added to alcoholic drinks was flat. We requested a snack or a bag or crisps but they could not serve us with these at the bar, but we could go to our room and order them on room service! Probably would not stay there again, even though it had a central location.

"tired and seond rate"

I won`t be staying again - I paid over £140 for a pokey room (417). Hairdryer was broken and the bathroom fittings were grotty around the edges - tiles coming away around the boxing in of pipework etc. TV remote didn`t work and the TV buttons for switiching it on and off / volume etc were very tempremental. The corridor stank of old smoke. Clean room and bathroom but not good value for money. Stacey on reception was fabulous at check in.
