The Show
Fiddler on the Roof follows the story of Jewish Father Tevye and his family, traditions and heritage. As the story unravels Tevye finds himself battling with what he knows from tradition and what he is learning from others within his life. With his daughters looking to marry men that challenge tradition Tevye faces difficult decisions.

History of Fiddler on the Roof
The musical, set in the pale of settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905, is based off the Novel by Joseph Stein. The original Broadway production was first premiered in 1964 and was the first musical theatre run in history which surpassed 3,000 performances. It also held the longest running Broadway musical for almost 10 years and is the seventeenth longest running show in Broadway history.

Interesting facts about Fiddler on the Roof
Fiddler on the Roof's soundtrack is known through many generations, even if not in direct correlation. "if I were a rich man" is amongst the most popular. However, a huge number of 50 songs were originally wrote for the musical but were left on the cutting room floor. "A Butcher's Soul" and "Dear Sweet Sewing Machine" were amongst those that were left behind. It was the first Broadway Musical to surpass 3000 performances.
