The Show F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic is now playing at the London Coliseum! Taking cues from the Jazz-Age hit and Baz Luhrmann's riotous screen adaptation, the stage musical of Gatsby brings the roaring 20s to life with performances from musical veterans like Jamie Muscato and Corbin Bleu. Our hero is Nick Carraway, a down-on-his luck bond salesman renting a Long Island bungalow that happens to be located next door to the opulent mansion of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious and wealthy bachelor ("nephew to Von Hindenburg and second cousin to the devil") whose lavish parties are a source of delight to hundreds of New York's blue-bloods. After reconnecting with his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her narcissistic husband Tom, Nick is drawn further into Gatsby's lavish world, and discovers the layers of intrigue and betrayal that lie behind the glitz and glamour of the Roaring '20s.
History of The Great Gatsby The first adaptation of Fitzgerald's best-known work was in 1926; since then, the novel has been adapted to the stage over 10 times. This version, composed by Tony Award winner Jason Howland, began life in New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse, followed by an award-winning Broadway run. From there it was off to the West End, where the show has been positively received by critics since its debut in April 2025.

Awards and What the Critics Say Upon its Broadway debut in 2024, The Great Gatsby garnered a Tony Award for Best Costume Design in a Musical, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. Since arriving in London, the show has been widely praised by critics Marianka Swain of London Theatre praised Corbin Bleu's performance as Nick and describing Jon Robyns as 'show-stealing' in the role of the selfish, bigoted Tom Buchanan.
Interesting Facts About The Great Gatsby Supposedly, F. Scott Fitzgerald was inspired to create the character of Daisy based on Ginevra King, a socialite with whom Fitzgerald was infatuated and whose parents forbid her from seeing him due to his lower social standing.
