Central position, less than five minutes from Waverley Station. Room very spacious, and clean. Hotel would benefit from a facelift, although not dirty, just a bit worn and dated in parts. Great value for money, especially the fact it included a really good buffet breakfast. Will definitely be staying again, soon!

"Good for short stay"

Facilities in general were very good. Room outlook dismal, but satisfactory for short stop-over. No fault of the hotel, but sleep was disturbed both nights by late night revellers and door banging.

"Good but........"

With the hotels central position, which was good, means there is a lot of outside noise. This is not just traffic but people returning along princes street from nightclubs at 2.30.a.m. quite noisily. The hotel itself was excellent and the staff very courteous and helpful and the food was very good value.

"I excpected better from staff and room standards for Capital, and famous princes street!!!"

Hotel was comfortable , staff ok, when settled in to room, went down to bar for a drink, the moment we sat down a girl came round some tables and plonked a reserved sign on the table. How rude didnt explain why or ask us to move seats. Not my fault that they had organised a xmas party that night and needed tables to set up , we had just paid for rather expensive drinks and were left with no where to sit. This was a birthday treat for me from my husband, and i was very disappointed at the lack of manners from some of the staff. Although on a high old lady at breakfast was a delight, so lovely and helpfull. they dont make them like that anymore. Room very stuffy and hot, even though we did not have the heating on.

Overall the hotel and staff were excellent especially when one of our cases was mistakenly collected by someone else! However we were very disappointed about the restrictions on use of the bar and restaurant in the evenings. This meant we had to make special arrangements - very inconvenient as we were travelling with an 18 month old toddler and a 78 year old lady! We should have been informed before arrival as we booked the hotel intending to use these facilities.

Although the location of this hotel is excellent, we were disappointed with the decor in the room and felt the hotel would benefit from some modernisation.

"Discrete from the outide, but a fabulous location and stunning panoramic views of the historic "skyl"

A perfect choice for our trip -on the weekend of the Edinburgh Marathon. Also the service, reception , bar and restaurent were without fault. Very fair pricing too. Thoroughly recommended!

"Confusion at check in spoilt otherwise good hotel"

Having booked two twin rooms for one night reception at check in only acknowledged a booking for one twin room. Sharing the booking reference information and print out resulted in acceptance of the error and in the absence of a second twin room, two singles were offered at no extra cost. On further discusion, it appears that there may have been a transposition of two twin rooms for one night to one twin room for two nights. overall this was a little disconcerting and could have been a significant problem if other rooms were not available.

"A lot of money to pay for a nice view"

Two non-smoking rooms booked. One was on a whole floor of smoking rooms & smelt strongly of smoke. Small and v cramped. Other was non-smoking, large and pleasant but bed was v uncomfortable. Visible bruises next morning from springs. Staff were obliging & room was switched but new room was small and cramped. Decor dated & generally grubby. Breakfast poor - cooked breakfast not ready for start of service; menus giving details of hot food to order placed on tables as we finished breakfast; undercooked tomatoes, rubbery scrambled eggs, cold toast only cooked on 1 side. We`ll be going elsewhere next year (annual trip for rugby) & wont be recommending on the rugby forums.

"Excellent Location"

We stayed for two nights and found the hotel to be very comfortable and in an excellent location for getting around Edinburgh. The staff were extremely hepful and pleasant. Breakfast was very nice with plenty of choice to suit all. There was only one lift working which meant we sometimes had to wait for it to arrive.

I stayed at the Mount Royal Hotel in Edinburgh 4/5 April 2009 with two friends. I shared room 455 and another friend stayed in 457. On our return to the hotel around 1.00 a.m., after being at an evening reception, the guest in room 457 had to shout for help as she was trapped in the bathroom. The bathroom door was jammed solid and attempts to open the door resulted in the handle coming away in her hand. I have to say that response from Hotel staff was instant, but unfortunate considering the early hours and the fact she was on her own, was a bit upsetting. In addition, other guests were disturbed. I have stayed in the Hotel before and been very happy with the facilities. Christine

This hotel is in a prime spot for walking access to the centre of the city, Prince`s St., Royal Mile, the Castle etc for shopping and dining out. Rooms at the front have a wonderful view of the gardens and Castle, although when we were there, there was a certain amount of disruption at the front as they are installing a new tram system which should be completed by 2010 Rooms and the breakfast were excellent.

Although we only stayed one night, the room was quite basic. The worst thing was when i went to open the curtains and all we could see was the staff of Jenners i presume staring back at us!!! Needless to say the curtains were never opened again. The breakfast the following morning was lovely and there was plenty of choice.

Reception area was excellent both in decor and the helpfulness and attitude of the staff, likewise the breakfast was of good quality and the restaurant staff and bar staff were more than helpful, however, the room was lacking in facilities especially the beverage tray and the bathroom only had one hand and one bath towel. Would book again as excellent position and the friendly helpful staff.

"Location is excellent."

I found the stay to be very relaxing. the accomodation was very good and the breakfast facilities were great. The only negative was the inconvenient parking, wouldn`t hesitate to return. What deals are you doing for over New Year?

"People speaking could be heard in room next door late at night. Paper thin walls!! Narrow room."

Disturbed by noise outside hotel at 05.00 hours by people delivering or picking up or emptying bins, talking loudly (heard from the third level). For £126 I was disturbed by people talking in the next room. Nice view from window and excellent breakfast!

The hotel was good but it was covered in scaffolding during our stay so any views were severely limited. Staff very helpful.
